Tips for Building Resiliency During the Holiday Season
While the holiday season can be a joyous occasion for many, it can also be a stressful occasion for some. As a student and or professional, the end of the year can be wrought with many commitments and deadlines that need to be met before we take a break for the holidays. Here are three tips to help you build your resiliency and keep your sanity this holiday season.
According to research, practicing mindfulness meditation for at least 10 minutes a day will result in less stress, better sleep, and can help build compassion for self and others. To help you get started, here are a few suggestions of the best mindfulness meditation apps you can easily download to your iPhone or Android: The Mindfulness App; Calm; and Headspace.
Try The Three Good Things Exercise. Researchers at the Penn Resilience Project at the University of Pennsylvania developed this exercise. Every day for a week, write down or journal three good things that happened to you that day. For each good thing that has happened, write why it happened, what it means to you, and how you can have more of it. This is a great way to discover your strengths and a great way to develop grit and resiliency!
Finally, connect with family and friends during the holiday season. Connecting with others, helping family and friends, or volunteering during the holiday season can help improve and or restore your confidence, compassion, gratitude, and resiliency!
